Choose Shipping or ML-C from an NSN result to review the item's freight and management-list information. Segment G groups freight classifications; Segment H groups management values by organization or service.
How to get here and continue
- Search an item through Search by NSN/NIIN, open the NSN result, then choose Shipping for Segment G or ML-C for Segment H.
- The chosen link opens the corresponding freight or management-list view for that NIIN. Use the relevant field section below and consult the linked official references before assigning a meaning to an undecoded value.
- Back returns through browser history to the NSN result that opened the segment view. Use that item page to continue parts research.
Segment G: shipping-data fields
| Screen label | Stored value and why a user checks it |
|---|---|
| Integrity | Freight-integrity code stored with the freight data. DLA approved process summary. |
| Activity | Originating Activity Code for the activity that submitted or originated the cataloging information. DLA data dictionary. |
| Rail | Rail Variation Code for differences between National Motor Freight and Uniform Freight descriptions. DLA data dictionary. |
| NMFC | National Motor Freight Classification code used to group freight for rating. DLA data dictionary. |

Segment H: management-list fields
| Screen label | Meaning and use |
|---|---|
| SA | Organization associated with item management (the FLIS Major Organizational Entity code). In this example, DN is the Department of the Navy and DS is the Defense Logistics Agency. DLA MOE code dictionary. |
| MCD | Management Control Data, a service-specific set of management codes rather than a single universal status. Its positions and values require the applicable service's FLIS definition; do not decode the whole string as one code. DLA catalog-tool comparison. |
| SOS | Source of Supply code. DLA defines it as a potential source used for requisition routing. Here, SMS is listed as DLA Enterprise Business Systems (activity code GX). It does not show stock on hand, an active order or a promise to supply. DLA SOS definition and SMS code entry. |
| AAC | Acquisition Advice Code. Decode the actual value before describing availability or procurement route. |
| QUP | Quantity per Unit Pack code/value. Confirm its code rule and unit before translating case quantities to eaches. |
| UI | Unit of Issue code. Use it when comparing price, forecast or quantity; decode to its specific unit. |
| SLC | Shelf Life Code. Verify the actual shelf-life rule, packaging and lot data before making an expiration claim. |
| CIIC | Controlled Inventory Item Code. Decode to understand any control level; the page alone does not grant access or reveal handling rules. |
| Eff. Date | Stored management-list effective-date value. Its encoding and present applicability have not been established. |
| USC | Using Service Code, a management-data indicator for the service using the item. Decode the actual value before naming the service. DLA catalog-tool comparison. |
| Price | Stored management-list price shown without a currency formatter or verified unit basis. It is not the current award, catalog offer or supplier quote. |

Read each ML-C row as one management context. The displayed SA value is bound to a Major Organizational Entity value, while MCD and USC can vary by service or manager for the same NIIN. Keep those values together; do not combine one row's MCD with another row's USC and call it a single rule. SOS identifies a potential requisition-routing source, AAC describes acquisition advice, and UI/QUP describe issue and pack units. They answer different questions and none reports live inventory, a current quote or an approved manufacturer. DLA's PUB LOG explanation distinguishes identification, management and part/reference data and explains SOS as a potential source in routing.
Live example: 4030-00-266-7415
The Shipping page displayed one freight row: Activity XX, NMFC 105200, UFC 54160, WRT Commodity 576, CGO Type Z, Special Handling 9, AIR Dimensions A, Air Handling BZ, CLAS Rating U, and Freight Desc FITTINGS CABLE/CHAIN/ROPE I/S. Integrity, Rail, HMC and LCL were blank. These literal codes need their applicable value tables; blanks do not establish that a handling rule is absent. The ML-C page displayed three rows for SA DN, DS and GP. All showed SOS SMS, AAC J, QUP 1, UI EA, SLC 0, CIIC U, Eff. Date 20261001, and stored Price 000006106.94. Their MCD and USC differed: DN / 9B----- / N, DS / ------- / I, and GP / ------- / C. The displayed date and price are stored catalog values; this check did not verify their current applicability or a purchase price.

Read the management values in this example
| Displayed value | Meaning and use |
|---|---|
| AAC J | Not stocked, centrally procured. This describes the acquisition arrangement; it does not promise stock or an open purchase. DLA acquisition-advice definition. |
| UI EA and QUP 1 | The unit of issue is each, with one unit of issue per unit pack. This is packaging context, not the buyer's requested order quantity. DLA unit and pack guidance. |
| SLC 0 | The catalog does not classify this NSN as a shelf-life item. It does not guarantee every physical unit remains serviceable indefinitely. DLA shelf-life code table. |
| CIIC U | Unclassified in the controlled-inventory code. Other applicable controls still need checking. DLA inventory-code definition. |
| USC N / I / C | Navy / Integrated Materiel Manager / Coast Guard, respectively. I describes a management role, not a third military service. Keep each value with its original row. DoD MILSTRIP handbook, chapter 6, table 2. |
| Eff. Date 20261001 | October 1, 2026, attached to the management row. It is not a quote expiration or proof of a current sale price. Current versus future-effective catalog status remains a separate check. DLA WebFLIS guide. |
Read each code in the context of its field; the same letter can mean something different in another field.
For a quote, first identify the correct UI and QUP, then compare any catalog Price with a dated award only after checking the same unit and quantity. AAC J says this example is not stocked and centrally procured; it does not mean a displayed SOS SMS has units ready to ship. The three rows' identical stored price does not make it an offer to sell at that amount. For fulfillment, check the current RFQ's packaging, delivery, inspection and hazardous-material terms against Segment G. The freight codes classify shipping data but do not calculate a carrier charge or supersede those terms.
Shipping and quoting example
For a part that may require controlled handling, check Segment A's HMIC and DEMIL, Segment G's special-handling and freight fields, and Segment H's CIIC, UI, QUP and SLC. Decode the actual codes with the applicable official references, then compare current solicitation packaging and delivery instructions. Use UI and QUP to avoid comparing a pack price to an each price. Do not derive a freight rate or accepted shipping method from an undecoded code.
